Lynch Them or Save Them

I will start by apologizing to all who have been checking the blog to catch up with the latest of what is happening in Kenya. Just to let you know that our programs have been running very well despite all the challenges we have been facing recently.

On Thursday the 28th we had some thieves come to our office and stole our laptops. It was mysterious as they stole them in broad day light. Everyone was wondering who might be involved as it appeared like an inside job. After our staff were grilled by the police for a few hours they let all go home. On Monday February 1st we were called by some friends to go and witness some thieves who had been caught stealing electronics from peoples houses. After being questioned by the angry people who had lost their items, they named a list of other suspects who have ran away from the Town since. With tires around their bodies and gasoline poured on them, they had to plead for their lives from the bitter crowd that was ready to lynch them. Tension had gripped the whole town wondering what would be a good lesson to these thieves. In one way or another, the police arrived and intervened. Though badly beaten, they are still alive and in the police custody. We have not recovered our laptops yet.
Yesterday, Sunday the 14th other two people were caught stealing electronics in Kijabe(the neigboring mission station) and two car jackings on the Kijabe-Maai Mahiu road. Everyone is feeling pressured between the rock and a hard place. Should they lynch them or save them. This is another great reason the ministry of CTC is so much vital to Maai Mahiu village. Poverty, lack of opportunities and idleness have led to all this. Not forgetting the human depravity. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we need that so much right now.

Despite all that!

Liz had written a good blog update on what the malaika mums are doing but we were unable to put it up last Monday due to the computer problems.

The mums have continued to build a strong bond with each other, supporting one another with deep issues going on in their lives. Looking into the future and wondering what it holds for them, they have continued to be thankful for the opportunity to be at the CTC center. They have also continued to put efforts in learning the sewing skills and have been revising on what they can do other than make bags. Its a strong team that has been empowered and through them, a few homes have a hope of continuous supply of the basic needs.

We are working hard to keep all of you updated every monday and hopefully we will get a way sooner than later so that we can update our blogs consistently.

We are not giving up.
